I would like to comment on the welcoming &
friendly marina we found when a group of us from the Washburn Marina
docked over Labor Day Weekend. Some of us had not been there since the
construction project took place. We found everyone very willing to accommadate
our needs and address our questions. We are still commenting about the
fact that when rumor had it we had a cookout planned, someone brought
over one of the brand new grills from the marina area for us to use on
the transient docking side. What is truly amazing is how you got the
fish to accommadate us so that our crew were able to catch 14 fish in
one day! We plan to return again next season.

Well, another camping season over and we are left
with a little bit of sadness. To some people Saxon Harbor is a weekend
stop on their travels
but to a group of us it is our "summer home." We have made
new friends and have had to say good bye to some (an especially early
good bye to one of our fellow campers that passed away this summer, Lori
Erickson). We have watched each others children grow up from riding their
bikes around the campground and playing at the plaground to getting their
drivers licenses to graduating from high school. Saxon Harbor has had
many memories for a group of us. Bill and Grace are always good to us
and have always been good to our kids. Kathy Koski did a wonderful job
this summer with keeping the campground clean and orderly. So once again
I want to say thanks for another great summer and until next year......Have
a great winter,
Jim and Wendy Hautanen

The
Dock Box Committee is attempting to make a list of all slip renters
who want to get a dock box. Dock
Boxes Unlimited has offered what we
consider the best deal and we'll be asking them for a quote
once we get a reasonable estimate as to how many boxes we plan
to order. Please let the committee know if
you plan to order a box.

Saxon
Harbor Boating Club: History and Purpose The
club was formed in 1974 with 36 members. It has been continuously active
since that time. In 2006, the club boasted 203 members on its roster
with hopes the membership will continue to grow along with the harbor
expansion.
The club incorporated as a non-profit organization
in the State
of Wisconsin in 1978. The by-laws state that the membership is open to
any interested person. Upon payment of dues a membership runs from January
1st to December 31st.
The purpose of the
club is to:
Promote safe boating;
Pursue the environmental protection
of Lake Superior and its rivers and streams;
Attempt to keep members aware of changing
regulations which pertain to fishing and boating;
Seek the improvement of Saxon Harbor
and its facilities and assist where possible; and
Contribute to the betterment of the
community, where possible.

The club has been
instrumental in the recent expansion
of the harbor. Club members were asked for
input and took part in many of the meetings with Iron County officials,
the Corps of Engineers, the engineering firm and contractoring companies
who worked on the project. As the primary
users of the harbor, we felt our past experiences and knowledge of the
harbor could help shape the direction of the project so that new harbor
users would feel this facility offers a good value for the services and
amenities provided.
